Amethyst is a variety of quartz and comes in various shades of purple, ranging from light to dark violet. It is called the stone of intuition.

The main deposits of amethyst are in Brazil, Uruguay, Zambia and Russia. However, the stone is also found in other parts of the world, including Bulgaria.

The name “amethyst” comes from the Greek word “amethystos,” meaning “not drunk.” According to ancient Greek mythology, amethyst protected against intoxication and helped maintain a clear mind. The Romans drank wine from amethyst vessels to protect themselves from drunkenness. The ancient Egyptians also valued amethyst and used it in jewelry and amulets. In the Christian tradition, it has long been the preferred gemstone of high-ranking clergy. In the past, it was so valuable that it was considered one of the cardinal gemstones, along with diamond, sapphire, ruby, and emerald.

Nowadays, the stone is believed to help fight stress and insomnia, increase productivity, improve memory and open the third eye. It is also called the stone of intuition. In addition, it is a popular, but unconfirmed legend that the stone is also an excellent protection against snakes. It is associated with the zodiac signs Pisces, Virgo, Aquarius and Capricorn

In feng shui practice, amethyst is used to attract positive energy and harmony. It is usually placed in the north, northwest, and east sectors of the home or workplace to improve career opportunities, well-being, and health.

To preserve the beauty of amethyst, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight and high temperatures, which can cause the color to fade. Cleaning can be done with lukewarm water and a soft cloth.

As part of a piece of jewelry, amethyst can be combined with various other stones and give additional weight to the jewelry, similar to our amethyst ring and diamonds.
