Quartz is a hard crystalline mineral composed of silicon dioxide. Its name comes from the German, which in turn comes from the Czech form of the word for hard – tvrdyThe ancient Greeks called it "crystal', translated as ice cold. The Roman scholar Pliny the Elder believes that quartz is water frozen over the centuries, much like resin turning into amber. Quartz has been identified as the mystical substance maban in Australian Aboriginal mythology. The ancient Egyptians used clear quartz in amulets, believing that it absorbed and amplified solar energy.

Varieties of quartz

Quartz has many varieties that are used in jewelry. To this day, many people are left with the impression that stones like amethyst, citrine or chalcedony are different from quartz, and they are actually varieties of it with impurities.

Other varieties of quartz are Herkimer diamond, carnelian, aventurine, onyx, agate, jasper and others. Of course, quartz is best known in its clear, smoky, or rose variety.

The color of rose quartz is thought to be due to traces of titanium, iron, or manganese in the material. Recent X-ray diffraction studies have shown that the color is due to microscopic fibers of probably дюмортиерит (blue semi-precious stone) in quartz. In jewelry, rose quartz is most often combined with diamonds, like our handmade locket with rose quartz and diamonds – this combination gives exceptional tenderness and elegance to the wearer of the jewelry.

The translucency of smoky quartz It is the result of natural radiation acting on small traces of aluminum in the crystal structure.

Some varieties, such as amethyst, rose quartz, and citrine, are sensitive to UV light and can lose their vibrant color if exposed to sunlight for long periods of time. Therefore, quality jewelry often has a protective coating added or the stones are stored in the dark.

Some jewelers intentionally heat and cool quartz crystals to create “cracked” or “cracked” effects. These stones reflect light in unique ways and are often called “fire quartz” or “ice quartz.”

Mystical properties

The mystical properties of this stone are countless. It is believed to improve the general physical condition of a person - stimulates the immune system, normalizes blood pressure and prevents heart attacks. It also improves endurance and increases the strength of its bearer. It fights chronic fatigue, arthritis and depression.

Quartz is considered a natural carrier of information – according to esoteric beliefs, it can absorb, store and transmit energy footprints and even thoughts. Quartz crystals are used for "programming" - a person can put a certain intention into them.

Some esoteric theories claim that quartz can enhance telepathy and communication on a subconscious level and can be an energy portal through which communication with other worlds can occur. This is especially true for those crystals with inclusions – such as rutile quartz.

In jewelry rutile quartz (which contains golden or reddish needle-like inclusions) is considered a unique amulet. In some cultures, the golden threads inside it are believed to bring wealth and success.

There are also so-called phantom quartzes – crystals that contain internal formations resembling shadows or ghosts.

One of the most mysterious aspects is that quartz can spontaneously self-cleanse. While other crystals require regular cleansing with water or salt, some believe that quartz can recharge itself by interacting with the energy around it.

It is no coincidence that crystal is called the "universal stone" and "stone of light". And if you would like to acquire a similar beautiful and mystical piece of jewelry or have us make one according to your wishes - contact us at city of Varna, 47 Prince Boris I Blvd.
